Our beach chairs were right on the border of where the sunbathing ended and the weddings were performed. Two days in a row we watched uninvited, as strangers got hitched while we lounged in our bathing suits, slathered with SPF 15. We sipped our margaritas and quietly speculated about the future of both couples.

It is so wet and heavy that the branches of the dogwood tree are bending down and touching the outside lamp post. You have to duck under all of this frozen-light-coolness to get into the house. Makes shoveling (again) seem not so bad.

A flag flies from a sailboat near the Memorial Bridge that connects Portsmouth, NH and Kittery, ME over the Piscataqua River. The bridge's large weights are lowered to lift the center section to allow boats through. It was built in 1923 and is scheduled for a much needed rehab in 2009.

I know it is hard to tell from the photo...but I took this shot of the SUV driving next to me while we were both going about 70 mph on the Mass Pike last weekend. I was behind the wheel of my own car and stuck my camera out the window. Don't try this at home. Tomorrow morning I begin a 1000 mile solo road trip. Hopefully I'll encounter lots of photos waiting to be had.

Back in the day, I managed a New Orleans style brass band. The leader of the band was, um, pathologically disorganized (among many other diagnoses). New Orleans type brass bands are supposed to be big and messy and fun and spontaneous...but he took the description to a whole new level. Normally the band was made up of a couple of drummers, trombones, tubas, trumpets, a couple of sax players, etc. We had a lot of experienced musicians to call upon and the band was never comprised of the same people twice in the entire time I worked with them....always a source of anxiety for yours truly who likes to live in a world where her ducks (and brass band musicians) stay neatly in rows.

I had booked us at a nice paying corporate gig as a 9 piece band. I should have known things were worse than usual when the band leader was on the phone trying to recruit players as we were driving to the gig.

We ended up with 2 drummers and 7 trombone players.

My life saver was when the crowd started downing the free hurricane cocktails. Before the end of the night the crowd was in love with the band.

He was taking a photo with his cell phone and enthusiastically said to the vendor "You should put up a sign that says for $5.00 you'll move the poodle!!" Last weekend I met up with some dog rescue friends who were volunteering at an outreach booth at a big fancy dog show.

Being involved with rescue you learn to appreciate each individual, yet imperfect snowflake of a dog for exactly what they are. Most of which were badly bred or a mix of who-knows-who-your-daddy-was.

The whole idea of breeding dogs to look exactly alike kind of creeps me out.

Wayland Boy Scout Troop 1 of Cochituate show their gratitude to the community for the outpouring of donations they received after the theft of 50 of their fund-raising Christmas trees.

Police report that someone stole $2000.00 worth of Christmas trees from the troop's tree stand next to the Methodist church late last Saturday night. Once the news got out, several area landscapers and nurseries donated new trees and local residents donated thousands of dollars to the troop.

The sale of the trees is the troop's only fund-raiser and it pays for various hiking and camping trips throughout the year.

Police have no solid leads in the case.

What kind of person sneaks up to a church and steals Christmas trees from Boy Scouts?!
